Jurassic Fun Close To Calgary!

Experience Jurassic Fun at the Famous
Royal Tyrell Museum

Do you want to see Dinosaurs? Are you a big fan of these extinct creatures that ruled the earth millions of years ago. If you are! then you should definitely visit the Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller, Alberta. From Calgary, it would take you about 2 hrs (136 kilometers) going north east using highway # 2 to get to the museum. The long trip is worth it. I’ve gone to the museum and in Drumheller many times and still I find the museum very educational, amazing and jaw dropping.

The museum has a lot of exhibits of creatures from the prehistoric time. At first, I thought that this place was only good for kids but I could not resist my fascinations looking at the fossils of bones from the creatures once inhabited this world. I’m a big fan of the T-Rex and when I finally had a chance to see it face to face I was just in awe. I mean the creature was truly huge and very intimidating.

Aside from the T-Rex, among of my favourites were the raptors, triceratops, albertasarous, saber-toothed tigers, wholly mammoth, and the fossils of prehistoric sea creatures (just like lockless monster). There are also plants and stones exhibits you can find inside of the museum.

Another thing you can do while at the museum is go for a quick hike outside. This can be a good workout too! Outside the museum, you can explore the badlands. You'll be amaze by the the beautiful views.

Tips: Make sure to carry with you refreshments, a towel and lots of batteries to take pictures of the surroundings.

The museum exhibits are all world-class. So you’ll need plenty of time to go through all the amazing stuff that the Royal Tyrell Museum offers. Make sure that whenever you are visiting Calgary, set aside for a whole day to visit this place. I guarantee you that the time and money you spent will be worth it.

You do want to see more Jurassic Fun Places??? Can you handle it?

Make sure that you save some time to enjoy a couple of places I think you should go in addition to visiting Royal Tyrell Museum. They are extremely close to the museum and would add more to your already fantastic visit.

Jurassic Fun @ The Horseshoe Canyon

I recommend this place because it is simply spectacular. The Horseshoe Canyon is the located 17 km southwest of Drumheller via taking Highway 9. The canyon delivers images like no other and leave you in awe. The place is truly a bonus when you come to visit the Royal Tyrell Museum. Keep your money in your pocket because there’s no fee to get in and see the canyon.

The best way to enjoy the canyon is by hiking. So make sure to bring the best hiking shoes you can find. There are many hiking trails all over the canyon. Each trail leads to magnificent view once you reach the top of a hill or get into a perfect spot. You’ll be amaze on what you can discover while hiking in the canyon.

Want a birds-eye-view of Horseshoe Canyon? Then try a helicopter tour of the canyon. This is a must when visiting the canyon. When my wife’s parents visited us in Calgary, I had to show them the beauty of the canyon. They weren’t disappointed with what they saw while up in the air. There is no booking require for the tour so just show up and get ready to be amazed. The tours run from mid-June to early September.

In case you are wondering why they call it Canyon Horseshoe? It’s simple, the canyon is shaped like a horseshoe.

Jurassic Fun @ Town of Drumheller

The town of Drumheller is remarkably all about the prehistoric era, I mean literally. The town is situated at the heart of the Alberta badlands. Wherever you look you are bound to find something that represents the dinosaur age. Almost all of its establishments are decorated resembling the Jurassic era. There are lots of life-size dinosaurs sculptures scattered all over the town. Make sure to grab your camera and struck a pose for lasting memories of your visit.

Drumheller is the home of the tallest T-Rex statue in the world. Enter inside the statue where you can find interesting arts and facts about the T-Rex sculpture. It is only $3.00 per person to enjoy the giant T-Rex. From the mouth of the T-Rex on top, you will get a great view of the surrounding area. Once you’re done, the gift shop is the place for one-of-a-kind souvenirs.

Drumheller is relatively small area so strolling along wouldn’t be a problem. Browse through different shops, restaurants and other business establishments, you might find something interesting or tasty treats.

There you go! these Jurassic fun places are truly unique. It doesn't matter what age you are, these places can capture your imagination and leave you in awe.
