I love ice cream! My passion for it started when I was just a young lad way back in the Philippines. I remember as a young boy, I am always excited to see the ice cream vendor walking around with a bell in his hand pushing a colourful cart with a vanilla, chocolate and strawberry flavours – it was such a nice treat especially in the middle of a hot warm weather.

Here in Calgary a delicious place we always go for ice cream is Mackay's Ice Cream in Cochrane, Alberta. Although there are plenty of great ice cream stores in Calgary, going to Mackays is really a treat for me and my friends. Mackay’s Ice Cream is located west from Calgary using Highway 1-A W.

The short trip from Calgary to Cochrane will take you no more than 30 minutes. However the great views of the Rocky Mountains is enough to sidetrack you from your nice little trip. You’ll have an adequate time for you to think of possible ice cream flavour you crave.

You can try various delicious flavours such as: Maple Walnut, Strawberry, Mango, Pistachio Almond, Black Cherry, Chocolate, Cookie Dough, Mochaccino, Chocolate Fudge Chunk, Cookies & Cream, Vanilla and Tiger a combination of orange and licorice many more!

Their prices are very reasonable - a single cone is $3.50; a double is $5.75; a triple cone is $6.95 and a kiddie cone is $2.50. You can add .50 cents to upgrade for a sugar cone; .75 cents for a waffle cone; $1.00 for a chocolate waffle cone and $1.25 for a sprinkled waffle cone. If you are not in the mood for ice cream, Mackay also serves milkshakes for $4.95 and smoothies for $4.95 (all prices include taxes).

While enjoying your ice cream treat - you can go for a stroll in the town of Cochrane. The main street has plenty of establishments that mimic old western scenery. Check out the golf course near by. You can also go for biking and hiking from numerous steep hills and hiking trails. The quick ice cream trip is a nice retreat from the big city.
