Getting Around Calgary and Area

What are the modes of transportation available getting around Calgary?

PLANNING AHEAD of time is very vital. It helps you to make sure that modes of transportation you're going to use fits your budget, your ability to drive long hours, if you're considering a second driver, length of time you will be staying and finally, the places that you want to explore. Keep in mind that each type of transportation have pros and cons. Like for example, public transit is cheap but it wont get you further from it's usual route. Taxis is expensive if you are by your self but cheap if there's more passenger with you and so on. This is why planning ahead is a must!

I love to provide you with information regarding available source of transportation in getting around Calgary. Allow me to be you're tourist guide. These information are very flexible. You can use it before or after you arrive here in Calgary.

Public Transportation

Calgary Transit is Calgary’s public source for land transportation. Owned and operated by the City of Calgary, it provides excellent and timely buses and light rail services. Calgary’s light rail is called the C-Train, C stands for Calgary. For everybody's' convenience there are a total of 36 C-Train stations in the city which service the following routes: Northeast, Northwest, Downtown and Calgary South area. Once you're out of the C-Train, there are buses and shuttles that go to over 160 routes.

And guess what? each C-train station has a parking and vehicle plug-in stalls for cold temperatures. (yes, we're always ready for winter!)

One way: $2.50 One way: $1.75
Day Pass: $7.50 Day Pass: $4.50
1-Ticket Book: $23.00 1-Ticket Book: $15.00
Monthly Passes: $83.00 Monthly Passes: $50.50

Length of each fare is 90 minutes and can be both use in buses and C Trains. The FREE Fare Zone is in 7th Avenue, you can ride the C-Train for free.
Purchase a valid train ticket or transfer when not riding the Free Fare Zone. The fine for not having a valid ticket or transfer is $150 for your first offense and $250 for any repeat offense.

Taxi

Using a taxi is another way of getting around Calgary. Unlike the public transit, you can go almost anywhere in Calgary without waiting for bus or C-Train, transferring from C-Train to a bus and sharing seats with a complete stranger. There are numerous taxi companies in the City Calgary. You can call them for arrangements anytime before or after your arrival.

Car Rental

Rent a Car Online

From my experience, renting a car is the most comfortable, time-saving and cost effective way of getting around Calgary. With tons of great places and activities to do here, having a vehicle is a great thing to have.
Make sure that you get an insurance with the vehicle you are renting because accidents can happen anytime.
