Today's Calgary Weather

Winter

Winter Season in Calgary normally starts from middle to late November all the way to late March. Calgary's winter is long and dry. The nights are long and the days are short. Freezing temperatures of minus -10 degrees up to minus -25 degrees are common during the winter times. Winter peaks during the months of January and February where it tends to be colder and lots of snow on the streets of Calgary.

BUT WAIT!!! Because of its location near the mountains and to the Pacific Ocean, the City of Calgary experiences chinook winds. What is a chinook? Chinook is warm wind blows in the city from the Pacific Ocean during the winter months. Chinook winds can raise the winter temperature higher usually from 10° and up. The warm temperature can last from a few hours or for days. It’s like having a short summer in the middle of winter. Having chinook is good break from cold weather, you can enjoy winter and not always freezing your butt doing so. It shows the uniqueness of Calgary weather.

Winter activities in Calgary: skiing, snowboarding @ COP, outdoor hockey, tobogganing, watching ice sculpture events, ice fishing, curling, ice skating, watching Calgary Flames hockey and Calgary Hitman games, and visiting the mountains (Banff, Lake Louise and Canmore).

Spring

Spring Season in Calgary starts from late March to middle of May. Spring in Calgary is very wet and sometimes cold. The temperature goes above zero from plus 2° to plus 5° or even higher. There are still tendencies of snow and cold weather because of Calgary's location near the Rocky Mountain. The sun starts to give warmth temperature giving way to pretty awesome time to go around the city to witness scenery changes.

Spring in Calgary can be really wet. By this time, roads and streets are very slush from melting ice and soil. Flowers and trees start to grow back and little by little adding colors to the surroundings. Calgary Weather Spring Driving Tip: If you are driving, make sure your windshield wiper fluids are filled up especially from April - middle of May. Remember, Calgary roads and streets can be really wet and slushy.

Summer

Summer Season in Calgary starts from early June to late August. Calgary's summer tends to be short and dry. Temperature goes up from plus 20° to 25° or even higher.

The city is among the sunniest in Canada, with over 2,000 hours of annual sunshine on average. On a typical Calgary summer time, the sun starts shinning from 6 am until 9 pm and sometimes until 11 pm (talk about having too much sunlight!).
