Calgary Parks
Enjoy Calgary Parks! Your visit in Calgary is not complete without vising our beautiful and lovely parks. They are fantastic spot for great activities such as family gatherings like picnics or games, BBQs, walking with your pet, a romantic date, or just simply enjoying nature at its finest. There are also various events and festivals held in some of these parks.
In Calgary there are numerous parks you can go and enjoy. To help you decide which one to go, may I suggest the following 3 parks.
Bowness
Bowness is my favourite park in Calgary. The Bowness Park is ideal for picnics or any gatherings you want to celebrate outdoors. Tall trees’ surrounding the entire park makes the air refreshing and truly enjoyable. There are plenty of picnic tables, barbecue pits and wide open spaces best for volleyball, crochet and freeze-bee throw. Enjoy playing a round of mini-golf for $5.00 per person which includes golf clubs.
Adjacent to the park is the Bow River; you can enjoy boating, kayaking and canoeing on summer time. I’ve gone boating for a couple of times already and I had a blast! You can rent paddle boats and canoes inside the park. An hour of renting a canoe is $15.00. Two person pedal boat is $15.00/half hour and $20.00 for an hour. The four person pedal boat is for $20.00/half hour and $30.00 for an hour.
Patrol cops on boats survey the river for security and enforce city bylaws. Make sure to always wear your life jacket for safety and avoid getting a ticket. Walking along the banks of the Bow River is another alternative to enjoy your time at the park.

Princess Island Park
Located in downtown Calgary, Princess Island Park offers both nature and man-made beauty. It’s our mini version of The Central Park (in New York) ;) While having a walk, you can observe the magnificent Calgary Skyscrapers and the beauty and serenity of the Bow River. The park also is a regular venue for Calgary Events like Calgary Winter Fest and Expo Latino.
During the summer, colourful flowers and huge green tress adds to the beauty of the place. While during the winter, the frozen river becomes a perfect spot for ice skating and other fun winter activities.
FishCreek Park
Fish Creek Park is another of my favourite parks in Calgary. Fish Creek is the largest urban park in North America. The park is very close from where I live (about 5 minutes to be exact). If you like walking, biking, or even roller blading then this place is perfect. With lengthy paved paths, you will enjoy every moment trying to go from one end to the other.
Fishing is another reason why Fish Creek is very popular with locals and visitors. The fish infested waters of the Bow River and the Fish Creek boast of varieties like the Long nose sucker, rainbow trout, white sucker and brown trout.
With tons space available, you don’t have to worry about not having a spot for your family picnic or BBQ sessions. Finally, this park is well known for wildlife visitors like deer, coyotes, beavers, muskrats, garter snakes and even salamander.
Fish Creek Park is located in the south quadrant of Calgary. The Park is normally open from 8 am to 8 pm or 10 pm. You can take Macleod Trail (towards South) or via Bow Bottom Trail S.E. or Sun Valley Boulevard S.E. off Highway 22x to access the Park
There you go! I hope that the information I provided can help you to decide which Calgary Parks you wan to visit and enjoy an outdoor experience while you are here in Calgary.
Truly these Calgary Parks are uniquely Calgary and a must see!
