Sikome Lake

Sandy beach in Calgary??? Well you are in luck! We give you Sikome Lake. It is a man-made lake located in the South quadrant of Calgary. It is the closest you can get to a sandy beach in Calgary without leaving the city. The sand bottom and sand shoreline makes the Sikome very fun and enjoyable. The lake is about 6 to7 feet deep making it warm and ready for you to indulge during the summer time.

The lake is free for everybody to enjoy. There’s washroom, change room, playground and concession area available inside. The lake normally opens in June to Sept (summer) 10 am to 8pm. They have staff but don’t have lifeguard on duty so make sure to keep an eye on our kids (if you have one). Pets are not allowed in the Lake. You can bring food and do some BBQ (only propane fuelled).

Try to come early so that you can take advantage of getting nice shaded spots and benches. If you are coming later in the afternoon, bringing your own blanket and beach umbrella is highly recommended because the lake tends to attract a lot of visitors.

During the winter time, water is drained out of the lake. The water is tested and treated to ensure it is safe to swim. Sicome Lake is very close to the Bow River and McKenzie Golf Course, where you can enjoy fishing, walking and a nice round of golf.

You can access Sikome via Bow Bottom Trail S.E. or Sun Valley Boulevard S.E. off Highway 22x.

I love Sikome Lake. I always enjoy my time with this lake. Having it about 5 minutes from where I live is a definite plus for me & my family. Although it is just man made, for me, it delivers the same fun and enjoyment just like the real thing. I hope you would say the same thing once give it a try.
